Water Safety Instructor
Do you want to teach swimming and water safety courses? If
you are at least 17-years old and a proficient swimmer, you
can become an American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor! As
a Water Safety Instructor (WSI), you can:
- Teach skills that may save a life
- Gain terrific work experience as an aquatics professional
- Earn money--or join a volunteer team--while you help
people learn valuable skills
- Learn organizational and presentation skills that will
help you in any career
- Make a difference in people's lives
Whether you want to splash around with kids and teach them
to swim, help children or adults refine their strokes, or
teach diving safety techniques, you can do it as an American
Red Cross Water Safety Instructor. Qualified WSIs can also
help prepare swim coaches to prevent and respond to
emergency situations.

Lifeguard Training
The American Red Cross Lifeguarding program provides
lifeguards with skills and knowledge necessary to keep patrons
of aquatic facilities safe in and around the water. This program
includes a lifeguard training course with aquatic-specific first
aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation(CPR) training. It also
offers a choice of environment-specific lifeguarding modules and
courses with advanced prevention and resuscitation skills to
meet the training needs of aquatic facility managers and their
staff.

Emergency Response
The purpose of the American Red Cross Emergency Response
course is to provide participants with the knowledge and skills
necessary to work as a first responder in an emergency to help
sustain life, reduce pain, and minimize the consequences of
injury or sudden illness until more advanced medical help can
arrive.
The course content and activities will prepare participants to
make appropriate decisions about the care to provide in an
emergency. The course teaches the skills a first responder needs
to act as a crucial link in the emergency medical services(EMS)
system.
The course follows the 1995 US DOT First Responder National
Standard Curriculum and meets ECC Guidelines.
Adult CPR/First Aid
classes are taught the third week of each month at the Red Cross
Office. The fee is $25. Call the office to pre-register.

CPR for the
Professional Rescuer
CPR for the Professional Rescuer is a 9-hour course that
teaches a variety of skills including one- and two-rescuer CPR,
use of resuscitation masks and bag-valve masks for ventilating
victims, and how to respond in special rescue situations such as
drowning.

Preventing
Disease Transmission
Preventing Disease Transmission is a two-hour training module
for employers and employees who, while on the job, may be
exposed to blood or other body fluids that could cause
infection. Employers can offer this program as part of their
compliance with OSHA regulations.

Workplace Training
The American Red Cross Workplace Training program is a first
aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation(CPR) training program to
prepare individuals to respond to injuries and sudden illnesses
that may arrise in the workplace. This program offers a choice
of first aid and CPR courses and injury-control modules to meet
the specific training needs of employers and their employees.

Water Safety / Swimming
The American Red Cross Learn To Swim Program is designed to
teach participants how to be safe around water. This course
begins with a water safety session and an assesment of the
swimmers ability. The course then begins teaching them the
fundametals of swimming strokes such as front crawl(freestyle),
back crawl, breastroke, elementary backstroke, sidestroke, and
even the butterfly.
